Roche Jaune, Inc. was founded 12 years ago by Alexa Calio after felling, peeling and stacking logs for a two-story, 3,000-square-foot log home she chinked herself with a hand-held caulking gun. Once that job was completed, a friend asked her to help chink her cabin and a business was born.
Alexa built her second home after buying a deteriorated 100-year-old log homestead from a Montana rancher. She tore it down piece by piece and moved it to her property in Jardine where she oversaw and helped with major reconstruction from the ground up. Work included restacking the old logs and incorporating all of the weathered wood, bricks, hinges, old hardware and anything else of value salvaged from the old homestead. That home, Sunny Slope Lodge, is now used for vacation rentals along with two additional houses on the property.
